Welcome to Naxos
Naxos is part of the Cycladic islands and lies at the centre of the Aegean. The coastline is abrupt on the south side and more sheltered to the west. The Island has virgin sun-sea-sandy beaches round it and is famous and awarded for its coastline from Agios Prokopios to Agia Anna, Mikri Vigla, Plaka and Orkos. You will find great swimming beaches at Agios Prokopis, Mikri Vigla, Kastraki, Alyko, Pyrgaki, Ayiasos, Apollonas, Psili Amos, Panormos and Pahia Amos.
Naxos (Hora) stands on a naturally amphitheatrical site on a hillside on the north-west side of the island and is one of the most attractive towns in the Cyclades. The old Venetian Castle is the first view when visitors arrive at the.
Other interesting monuments from various periods are to be found all over the town. They include Byzantine churches, the castle itself and traces of Mycenean buildings in what is known as Grota. The Archaeological Museum of Naxos has some notable exhibits and is also worth a visit.
